The factory store was opened in the summer of 2013 just across the road from Cedar Ideas on the Oakfield/Smyrna Road. We decided that a retail outlet was needed to better display and advertise all the products we offered. We also wanted to provide a more convenient location for our customers. About us
Katahdin Forest Products was founded in 1973. Today we have grown and expanded. We employ over fifty skilled men and women in manufacturing, design, sales and customer service. We sell about 100 homes per year, some internationally.
Over the years we have expanded from just selling homes, to fencing and other cedar works products. Today, everything we produce here at our mills in Oakfield is the best it's ever been.
Why Cedar?
In 1973 we built our first home out of northern white cedar and we never looked back. Why? It is because cedar is a superior product when compared to pine. Northern white cedar is naturally resistant to pests and rot without any toxic chemical treatments. Essential oils in cedar give it eight times the durability of pine when exposed to ground contact. Cedar takes a stain well, or weathers to a silvery sheen. Cedar is also a better insulator than pine.

A freshly cut cedar log has less water than pine, about 1/3 less actually. Because cedar is naturally drier than pine it makes for a much more stable product, with less cracking, checking or warping.
